World vision Somalia secured some resources aimed at building the capacity of staff, particularly the Quality Assurance team in Nvivo. It is from this background that WV Somalia intents to build its staff capacity in qualitative data analysis and reporting. Much as most of the survey conducted collected qualitative information, it was noted that there is inadequate staff capacity to analyse and report qualitative information. One of the limitations experienced by WV Somalia in conducting annual performance monitoring through LQAS and other survey methodologies, is the significant bias to quantitative evidence of performance assessment, with very little qualitative data to support and qualify the statistics being generated from such LQAS survey. It also allows comparison of performance results at the smallest unit possible, thus allowing proper decision-making process by management at project and programme level. LQAS is the preferred monitoring survey methodology for WVS at strategy and project level because it is relatively less costly compared to other sampling methodologies.
In the last quarter of FY 19 as, two World Vision Somalia Quality Assurance team members attended a Lot Quality Assurance Training (LQAS) organised by the Regional Office with financial support from WV Kenya Office. This type of data is normally collected through methods of observations, audio or video recording, one-to-one interview, focus groups and similar methods.īased on the capacity gaps observed through spot meetings with Quality Assurance team members and review of evaluation and assessment reports, it was observed that WV Somalia team have the adequate technical capacity in managing, analysis and reporting of quantitative data. Qualitative data is by nature non-numerical, and it approximates and characterises a given phenomenon.
